A change of direction maybes

It’s been two years since I last posted on here and I don’t think I will get far in my original aim of getting to really understand the economic makeup and contribution of the foodie scene across Dorset.

Over the last two years though, it’s becoming more and more clear that Dorset is struggling to understand the future needs of skills and jobs, judging by the non-stop surveys and meetings for local businesses. Couple that with pressures on housing for those that want to fill the many jobs that are available, be they local or moving to the area, plus more people going into retirement age makes for an interesting future.

I interviewed someone in the field of innovation in healthcare and his view was that there is 4% year on year inflation just to stay still and the healthcare budget will reach an unsustainable level. A quick calculation shows 18 years, but with ever increasing demands, I am sure the time is fast approaching.

For another blog I am doing related to work, I am driving around the country visiting Innovation Centres and speaking to innovation leaders. I have on my list to visit the National Innovation Centre for Ageing in Newcastle upon Tyne, and also the Future Towns Innovation Hub in Southampton. After which I I want to interview someone working in health innovation from Bournemouth as all those themes will come together.

The post symptoms interventions with medical procedures or medication is putting such a strain on the NHS. I was told that about 70% of the ailments being treated are preventable. Prevention is better than cure. https://parklife.gordonfong.com/2024/09/andy-wilkins-future-of-health/

I want to explore that more. I think it will be interesting and I too am getting older, and I want to live a healthier and safer life. I want the spaces where I live to be conducive for wellbeing and longevity. I don’t want to rely on drugs for the tail end of my life. I don’t want that to be a financial cost where it need not be.
